Elephant Foot Yam curry(Suvarna gedde gasi)

I was bored with curries, saagus etc to have with chapathi. So I thought of trying this recipe which very well goes with chapathis and also rice.

Note: Chopping Yam is a difficult task since it makes the palms itchy.Using/applying buttermilk to the palms while chopping helps chopping Yam easy.
Here it is..

Ingradients :

1.Yam 1 cup - cubed into small pieces
2.Coconut - 1/2 cup(Grated)
3.Garlic - 2-3
4.Coriander seeds - 3 spoons
5.Tamarind - marble sized
6.Jaggery - 1 spoon
7.Dry/Red Chilli 2
8.Haldi -1 pinch
9.Oil - 2 spoons

Method :

Boil the chopped yam with tamarind ,haldi and salt and keep it aside.
Take a spoon of oil in a small pan and fry coriander seeds, red chillies and garlic.add it to the grated coconut and grind into smooth paste.Mix the paste with the boiled yam and add water according to the required consistency. Its good to be little thick for chapathis. Now add a spoon of grated jaggery and bring this to boil.

With 1 spoon of oil,add a mustard tadka along with curry leaves and now suvarna gedde gasi is ready.

While writing suvarna gedde,I just remembered that Gold rates have increased even more and its advisable to invest in E-Gold and Gold ETFs
